The 3rd Annual World Class Winter Gala: A Night of Celebration and Community Impact

On Saturday, December 9th, hundreds of individuals donned their finest formal wear and gathered for the 3rd Annual World Class Winter Gala. Hosted by the Greenwood Chamber Commerce, Inc. (GCC), this evening fundraiser was a tremendous success, filled with dining, entertainment, and a shared sense of community.

This year’s gala held a special significance as it honored the advisory board committee members who overcame a major hurdle in preserving the ownership of Greenwood. Their efforts prevented the federal government from taking control of the community, and their dedication was worth celebrating. Alongside them, other individuals who have made a positive impact in Greenwood were recognized, including NAACP Tulsa Branch President, Dr. Francetta L. Mays, Attorney Ron Durbin, and City Councilman Grant Miller.

Dr. Freeman Culver, President of GCC, took the opportunity to highlight two exceptional individuals as special honorees. Dr. Angela K. Chambers was recognized as the “World Class Breakthrough Leader,” while Eric Johnson received the title of “Business Man of the Year.” These individuals have demonstrated outstanding leadership and dedication to the betterment of Greenwood.

Babson College, a supporter of the GCC, recognized and awarded the business owners of the their cohort 5 of  Black Women Entrepreneur Leadership program certificates.

The evening was expertly hosted by radio personality Ally Shaw, who brought her charm and wit to the stage. The entertainment lineup was nothing short of impressive, showcasing local talent and providing a truly memorable experience for all attendees.

Tulsa native, Eddie Jones, kicked off the night with an original classic, leading the audience in a heartfelt rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” His performance was followed by an energetic rendition of his own song, “Keep Smiling .” The crowd was captivated by his soulful voice and powerful lyrics.

Comedian Larry Tibbs took the stage next, captivating the audience with his unique brand of humor and original storytelling. His jokes had everyone laughing, creating a joyful atmosphere that kept spirits high throughout the evening.

As the night progressed, Tony Mason stepped up to the microphone, serenading the ladies with a couple of beautiful ballads. His smooth voice and heartfelt lyrics warmed the hearts of all in attendance, setting the stage for a truly unforgettable night.

Headlining the night, renowned R&B singer, Glenn Jones took to the stage to sing some of his greatest hits songs such as “We’ve Only Just Begun” and “I’ve been Searching” to name a few. He had the audience on their feet and singing along to the ballots.

Finally, at the end of the night, DJ Phatkat kicked off the after party with some favorite old-school jams.

Kudos to Owasso administration, school Superintended Margaret Coates, who was present to welcome and support those in attendance as well as the coach.

Coach Graham, in his short speech, described his stress was not coming from being behind a great coach but realized that even after overcoming so much in his personal life, his stress comes from knowing that he cannot afford to make big mistakes. He understands being the oldest child of six that his siblings are looking up to him. His son and daughter are also looking up to him. He thanked his family and all of those who were present in his life and kept him on the right track.
