๐ The Greenwood Beat – WFPG Kicks Off YEAR 3 on the Historic Greenwood Avenue ๐๏ธ
Tulsa, Oklahoma โ Today marks an exciting and deeply meaningful milestone for The Greenwood Beat โ WFPG, Oklahomaโs first woman-owned and first-ever radio station located on the historic Greenwood Avenue โ the original Black Wall Street. We are officially entering YEAR 3 of broadcasting, storytelling, truth-telling, and beat-making.
Founded by Dr. Angela K. Chambers, Ph.D., The Greenwood Beat โ WFPG was created to reclaim the mic for Greenwood and amplify voices too often left out of mainstream media. Since launching, the station has grown into a vibrant platform for music, news, culture, commentary, and community. We have hosted authors, business owners, activists, youth leaders, and entertainers โ all while preserving the legacy of the Greenwood District and pushing forward a new era of Black media power.
โWe didnโt just start a radio station. We started a movement,โ says Dr. Angela K. Chambers. โFrom the moment we went live, our goal was to honor the past, impact the present, and build the future โ one beat at a time.โ
Throughout the past two years, The Greenwood Beat has:
Launched hit shows like Ask Angela, HopeHop Multimedia Podcast, Talkin Wit Trus, and Trumpet on Greenwood
Partnered with local and national creatives, including Black-owned businesses, artists, and authors
Led initiatives like The Black Wall Street Shopping Network, Greenwood Literary Voices, and the upcoming No Violence in America campaign
Provided virtual business addresses for entrepreneurs to operate from the heart of Black Wall Street
Held strong in defending the legacy and physical presence of the historic Greenwood Business District
And now, with Year 3 underway, weโre raising the bar even higher.
Weโre investing in:
- Expanded programming and syndication opportunities
- Youth and intergenerational media education
- National content partnerships
- More shows, events, campaigns, and resources to uplift the culture and community
This milestone is not just about celebration โ itโs about continuation. Greenwood lives. Black Wall Street rises. And The Greenwood Beat is the sound of that movement.
