Greenwood Literary Voices: A Powerful and Unforgettable Celebration of Black Literature and Legacy

Tulsa, OK — History was made on May 31 and June 1, 2025, as The Greenwood BeatWFPG hosted the inaugural Greenwood Literary Voices event at 104 North Greenwood Avenue. With a powerful blend of culture, creativity, and community spirit, this groundbreaking event brought together Black authors, readers, entrepreneurs, and community leaders in the heart of the historic Greenwood District—better known as the original Black Wall Street.

The energy was undeniable. From the moment the doors opened at 11 AM, the venue was alive with celebration, inspiration, and powerful storytelling. Every participating author experienced outstanding support, from book sales to heartfelt conversations with attendees who were eager to connect with their stories. Authors Lynne Crawford, Jeremiah Felton, Travis “Ruso” Milton, and Raittia Rogers each shared moving reflections on legacy, resilience, and the importance of reclaiming our narrative.

Adding to the day’s magic, Dr. Angela K. ChambersFounder and CEO of The Greenwood Beat—conducted interviews with each of the authors live on-air and also turned her attention to the vibrant business owners participating in the Deep Greenwood Vendors Farmers Market. Broadcasting live, Dr. Chambers elevated not only the literary voices but also the local entrepreneurs and artisans committed to rebuilding Black Wall Street one beat, one book, and one business at a time.

The vibe? Absolutely electrical.

Smiles, laughter, storytelling, community support, and cultural pride flowed from wall to wall. The event wasn’t just a book fair—it was a cultural reset, a restoration of what Greenwood has always stood for: Black excellence, unity, and entrepreneurship.

To honor each author’s powerful contribution, personalized Certificates of Appreciation were presented by Ask Angela and The Greenwood Beat – WFPG. These keepsakes marked a historic first—the first literary event hosted at Oklahoma’s first woman-owned radio station on Greenwood Avenue.

Photos from the event captured the joy, pride, and unity of the weekend and will be shared in a special Greenwood Literary Voices 2025 Photo Album— www.thegreenwoodbeat.com and social media platforms. View the album online.
