The Greenwood Beat – WFPG is not just a radio station, it’s a voice of Greenwood and a voice to the people. With their mission to be “A Voice of Greenwood,” they are making a significant impact in the community. Recognized as Oklahoma’s first women-owned radio station and the first black, woman-owned radio, WFPG is not only catching on but soaring to new heights.

Founder and CEO, Dr. Angela K. Chambers, is creating a platform to tell the true story of the historic Greenwood District then and now “It’s no longer radio as usual,” says Dr. Chambers. “The prevalence of digital radio and its ability to reach the masses is just one indicator. We are using The Greenwood Beat not just for entertainment, but also for education, information, and inspiration.

The Greenwood BeatWFPG, a rising star in the local media landscape, has recently garnered significant attention under the dynamic leadership of its owner, Dr. Angela K. Chambers. Known for her unwavering commitment to journalistic integrity and community engagement, Dr. Chambers has pledged to make District 1 City Councilor’s seat a true voice of the people. Her vision is to #flipthedistrict and make District 1 a district that fosters dialogue, amplifies marginalized voices, and addresses the concerns of the local community.

Dr. Chambers’ journey to this role is as inspiring as it is impressive. With a Ph.D. in Business Administration and has been standing up for justice, she has a deep understanding of the power of information, voting and this seat. It’s time to for the people to have a voice! Dr. Chambers will be accessible by creating community town hall meetings and open forums to interactive social media campaigns.

Her pledge to be a voice of the people is more than a slogan; it’s a mission statement that guides every aspect of her campaign, “Chambers for District 1.” Dr. Chambers is dedicated to ensuring that community is aware and understand all of the ins and outs of her role as City Councilor. By prioritizing transparency, inclusivity, and accountability, she aims to build trust and foster a sense of unity among voters.

The Greenwood Beat – WFPG is making BIG moves since it’s one year anniversary on June 8, 2024. Founder Dr. Angela K. Chambers has collaborated with organizer of this 2nd Annual event showcasing Oklahoma artists: The Marriage Between Hip-hop and R&B.

More announcements to come, including lineup of artists and more. The event is set for September 29, 2024, 2 PM – 6 PM at Guthrie Green in downtown Tulsa.

Volunteers to read on air to children. The Greenwood BeatWFPG kicks off Let’s READ!

 

On January 6, 2024, Dr. Chambers launched the “Let’s READ” segment on The Greenwood Beat – WFPG. She invited Mr. Troy J. Petit, Sr.,  an author and educator, to discuss his passion for writing “Hugs of Love” and read a few pages on air. Although Mr. Petit’s book is primarily aimed at children, it contains a valuable lesson about love that resonates with readers of all ages.

During the interview, Dr. Chambers and Mr. Petit emphasized the importance of children feeling loved and the pivotal role reading plays in their development. They highlighted how reading is a foundation for learning and fosters a lifelong love for knowledge Read more>>>
