When the weather is just right and the weekend is about to begin, there’s something special about finding the perfect songs to set the mood. That’s where Dr. Angela K. Chambers, CEO of The Greenwood BeatWFPG and host of the “Friday Night Old-School Slow Jams” on The Greenwood Beat – WFPG, comes in.

Every Friday from 10:00 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. CST, Dr. Chambers takes listeners on a nostalgic journey through the tunes that have stood the test of time. It’s the kind of show that brings joy and a sense of comfort, without even having to leave the house or go out to a crowded club.

As Dr. Chambers explains, “There’s something magical about hearing those songs you haven’t heard in a while. It’s like rediscovering a part of yourself, reminiscing about old times, and simply enjoying the music.” And that’s exactly what The Greenwood Beat delivers.

Launched on June 8, 2023, The Greenwood Beat has quickly become a refreshing presence in the world of radio. While many stations stick to the ordinary, playing music from selected genres, The Greenwood Beat is breaking the mold. They are inspiring, encouraging, and uplifting, all while jamming to the old-school beats that never fail to get your head nodding and your heart singing.

But The Greenwood Beat isn’t just about the Friday Night Old-School Slow Jams. The station offers a variety of other shows and platforms that cater to different interests and community needs. One of these is the “Refocus and Informed” radio talk show, where Dr. Chambers and Dr. Francetta L. Mays, the COO of The Greenwood Beat, discuss a range of topics. In the second season of the show and the first season on WFPG, they focused on justice. However, in the upcoming season 3, they will be diving into the theme of black love.

Another exciting addition to the lineup is “The New Artist Profile,” hosted by the world-renowned radio host Tony D. This show premiered on Sunday, June 21st, and aims to shine a spotlight on talented up-and-coming artists, giving them a platform to share their music and stories with a wider audience.

But it’s not all about music and talk shows on The Greenwood Beat. They also understand the importance of literacy and community engagement. That’s why they have a unique segment called “Let’s READ,” where volunteers take turns reading to school-aged children on air. By using their platform to promote reading, WFPG is making a positive impact on the community and encouraging a love for books.

So, if you’re looking for a way to kick back, relax, and start your weekend on a high note, tune in to the Friday Night Old-School Slow Jams on The Greenwood Beat – WFPG. Dr. Chambers will be your guide on this musical journey back in time, bringing you the songs that will make you smile, reminisce, and maybe even dance a little.

In 2023, Women Still Have Less Access to Capital Than Men

In 2023, Women Still Have Less Access to Capital Than Men

Donate to our station as we are working to build something great. We made history y’all! And even now access to capital for women is very challenging.
“The Greenwood Beat opens doors to truths, understandings, and better ways to healthy changes for our community, ” says Heather Nicole Nash. Nash will host a couple of shows on WFPG beginning this August. On August 2, 2023 @ 7:00 PM,  radio talk show The Referea will kick off followed by Greenwood Story’s  on August 28th.

According to Entrepreneur Magazine, “Women-owned businesses receive just 7 percent of venture capital investment money, which is highly disproportionate to their role in the economy. Additionally, loan approval rates for female entrepreneurs is 15 to 20 percent less than it is for men.”
“Women, especially women of color, not only earn less than men in the workforce but are also less likely to get access to capital for their businesses. Perhaps the most sobering statistic is that in all of 2018, women had a meager 2.2% share of the $130 billion given out in venture capital. And that was a $1 billion improvement over the prior year,” according to an article in Forbes. (2019)
The Greenwood Beat – WFPG has created a voice for Greenwood. WFPG is the first black, women-owned radio station in Oklahoma and is located in the Historic Greenwood District also known as “The Original Black Wall Street.”
