Powerful Conversations and Healing at Open Mic Night with Attorney Khadijat Oluwatoyin

On Thursday night, The Greenwood Beat – WFPG welcomed a powerful and enlightening Open Mic conversation led by Attorney Khadijat Oluwatoyin, Founder of Community Act. The event brought together passionate voices, including representatives from Grand Mental Health and Family & Children Services, for a candid discussion about mental health and the myths surrounding counseling in the Black community.

While the show ended officially, the dialogue didn’t. The conversation was so engaging and impactful that it continued for almost an additional hour off-air—a true testament to the importance and urgency of the topic.

Dr. Angela K. Chambers, CEO of The Greenwood Beat – WFPG, joined the ladies as they explored deeper ways to bring information and resources to the community. Together, they identified underserved areas, discussed solutions, and laid out ideas to reach those who still carry skepticism around seeking counseling and mental health support.

Mental health services remain drastically underutilized in the Black community, often due to stigma, fear, or a lack of information. But this Open Mic session proved that when safe spaces are created, healing begins.

This is just the beginning. The Greenwood Beat – WFPG, Attorney Khadijat Oluwatoyin, Grand Mental Health, and Family & Children Services are committed to continuing the conversation, providing education, and giving the community a voice. The mic is open—and so is the path to healing.

The Greenwood Beat Supports Raittia Rogers on Final Night of Her Powerful Playwright Opening

Tulsa, OK – July 2025 — The Greenwood Beat – WFPG proudly stood in full support of Raittia Rogers on the final night of her breathtaking and transformative stage production, I Broke Out of Prison. As Tulsa’s historic and trailblazing woman-owned radio station, The Greenwood Beat continues to champion powerful voices and truth-tellers in the community — and Raittia Rogers is undoubtedly one of them.

From opening night to curtain close, Raittia’s groundbreaking playwright, which dives deep into the emotional and spiritual journey of liberation from mental, emotional, and physical “prisons,” has captivated audiences with truth, pain, healing, and hope. The cast — a mix of first-time performers and gifted community members — delivered unforgettable performances that stirred the soul and encouraged powerful conversations long after the final bow.

On the final evening of the opening weekend, the energy in the building was electric. The Greenwood Beat’s own Dr. Angela K. Chambers, Founder and CEO, was present in full support and brought her grandson Jeremiah to experience the magnitude of storytelling and community upliftment on stage. “This production is not just a play — it’s a movement,” said Dr. Chambers. “Raittia Rogers is showing us what it looks like to turn pain into purpose and story into strategy.”

The Greenwood Beat – WFPG has continued to amplify voices like Raittia’s through radio interviews, community support, and promotional platforms. The partnership is a testament to the station’s mission of restoring the freedom to speak, perform, and be heard — especially for Black voices whose stories were once silenced in the very same historic Greenwood District.

As the curtains closed on this chapter of I Broke Out of Prison, there was no doubt that the journey is only beginning. The Greenwood Beat is excited to walk alongside Raittia in what’s next — whether it’s expanding the stage production, taking it on tour, or continuing the work of healing through storytelling.
