Wewoka, OK — The congregation of St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church will gather in celebration and gratitude on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at 3:00 PM to honor a decade of dedication, love, and spiritual leadership by Pastor G. Stacy Bert and First Lady Trina Bert. The 9th Pastor’s & Wife Appreciation Service promises to be a powerful and spirit-filled occasion, marking a milestone of service and faith.

This year’s theme, “Light The House Up,” draws from Luke 11:33:

“No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.”

The chosen scripture is a reminder of the visible, vibrant, and valuable light that Pastor G. Stacy and Trina Bert have brought not only to their local church but to the broader community as well. Through their selfless service, consistent faith, and undeniable love for God’s people, they have truly lit the house up for all to see.

The special guest bringing the Word is Rev. R. Williams of Friendship Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, OK. Known for his passionate preaching and commitment to kingdom work, Rev. Williams is sure to deliver a timely and uplifting message for the occasion.

Before 1921, Greenwood was a thriving Black economic powerhouse. A bustling community with its own hospitals, schools, banks, hotels, newspapers, and more. It was dubbed “The Black Wall Street of America”, not because it aspired to greatness—but because it was great.

Then came a single night in 1921—one of the darkest acts of domestic terrorism in U.S. history. In less than 24 hours, the district was reduced to ash. Hundreds of lives were lost. Thousands were left homeless. But even fire couldn’t silence the spirit of Greenwood.

This summer, a new voice will echo through the airwaves to unearth those stories. A new weekly show on The Greenwood Beat – WFPG will explore the resilience of a people and the power of place.

Each week, listeners will step back in time and walk forward with truth. Through first-hand accounts, historical deep dives, and hidden narratives, you’ll discover how the bricks of Greenwood carry more than history—they carry legacy.

Dr. Angela K. Chambers Honored by NABJ Tulsa for Outstanding Leadership and Commitment

The Greenwood Beat – WFPG proudly celebrates our Founder and CEO, Dr. Angela K. Chambers, who was recently honored by the National Association of Black Journalists – Tulsa Chapter for her outstanding commitment, service, and unwavering support of Black media, storytelling, and community empowerment – Member of the Month.

After joining NABJ-Tulsa, Dr. Chambers immersed herself in the mission of connecting with other Black journalists, content creators, writers, and media visionaries committed to telling stories through the lens of Black culture. She quickly recognized the deep roots and powerful legacy of this organization, which celebrates 30 years of impact in 2025.

Motivated by that legacy, Dr. Chambers made it her mission to give back—leveraging her talents, voice, and platform at The Greenwood Beat – WFPG to help shine a spotlight on NABJ Tulsa. She has been intentional about bridging generations, celebrating founding members, and encouraging the rising wave of Black media professionals to boldly carry the torch forward.

“What an amazing organization to join and participate in,” Dr. Chambers shared. “The members are workers, and that energy is contagious. It’s easy to be encouraged when you’re surrounded by those who are purpose-driven and pushing forward for our culture and community.”

The station is officially casting for 4 men and 5 women, ages 18 to 100, of all races and backgrounds, who are willing to sit at the mic and speak from the heart.

These new series—airing exclusively on The Greenwood Beat – WFPG and streaming online—will feature bold, open dialogue about issues that impact us all: from manhood and womanhood to politics, faith, race, love, identity, generational shifts, and community healing.

Powerful and Emotional Response

Tulsa, OK – May 2, 2025 — The Greenwood Beat – WFPG made history once again with the highly anticipated premiere of “Talkin Wit Trus,” hosted by none other than Treston Irby of the iconic R&B group Hi-Five. Originally scheduled for Thursday, the premiere aired Friday, May 2, at 7 PM CST — and the audience showed up in a big way.

Listeners from all over tuned in by the hundreds, flooding the digital airwaves with support, gratitude, and heartfelt reactions. The energy was electric, but what truly captivated the audience was Irby’s realness. He spoke from the heart, unfiltered and unapologetic, touching on topics many avoid but desperately need to be addressed in the Black community.

From reflections on fame, life after the spotlight, and the untold story of Hi-Five, to deep discussions about men’s mental health, generational trauma, and community healing — the show struck a chord.

“He didn’t hold back.”

“Finally, someone is saying what needs to be said.”

“I didn’t know THAT about Hi-Five. This story matters.”

These are just a few of the comments that poured in during and after the show.

Due to the depth and necessity of these courageous conversations, The Greenwood Beat – WFPG officially moved the show to its permanent time slot:

Tulsa, OK – April 19, 2025 — The Meet the Press Day Workshop held at OSU-Tulsa was a powerful and engaging event that brought together D9 Leadership for dynamic conversations around media, messaging, and mission. One of the highlights of the event was the impactful presence of Dr. Angela K. Chambers, Founder and CEO of The Greenwood Beat – WFPG, who served as a featured panelist.

During the workshop, Dr. Chambers delivered key insights on contacting and reaching the media, sharing from her wealth of experience in media and community storytelling. She passionately emphasized the importance of creating platforms within our own communities to tell our stories—encouraging attendees to position their organizations as media outlets in their own right.

“Even if mainstream media doesn’t pick up your story, you must still tell it,” Dr. Chambers stated, urging organizations to document their impact, craft their narrative, and become consistent content creators.

The session took an inspiring turn when an attendee asked Dr. Chambers about her journey as an author. She opened up about her family’s rich legacy—beginning with her great-grandfather, Neely Factory, one of Oklahoma’s first Black U.S. Deputy Marshals. She spoke proudly of her lineage of entrepreneurship, highlighting her late great uncle, Joe Phifer, who boldly opened a filling station in Oklahoma in the 1970s after returning from military service.

Dr. Chambers also shared the inspiration behind her latest release, Change Your Life in 21 Days of Good Habits—a self-guided resource and motivational tool for individuals seeking to realign and reset their lives with intention. “It’s more than a book,” she explained. “It’s a tool to help people reset—spiritually, emotionally, and physically.”

The upcoming opening of Buying Time on Greenwood, a new store in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has generated excitement in the local community. The store, located at 104 North Greenwood Avenue in the historic Greenwood District, is set to open its doors on February 8th, with a grand opening event scheduled for February 15th.

One of the key announcements surrounding the store’s opening is the appointment of the new store manager, De Hall. With previous experience as a business owner herself, De brings valuable expertise and a passion for supporting local artists, entrepreneurs, small business owners, and freelancers.

Buying Time on Greenwood aims to become a hub for the community, offering a wide range of products including antiques, gifts, artwork, and items created by local black artists. The store’s commitment to showcasing the talents of local individuals and fostering economic growth in the area is evident in their selection of products.

In addition to the physical store, Buying Time on Greenwood will also have an online presence. This online platform will not only allow customers to browse and purchase items but will also include auctions of artists’ artwork and other antique items.

The opening of Buying Time on Greenwood is a positive sign for the Greenwood District, which has seen a resurgence in recent years. The store’s presence is expected to bring increased foot traffic to the area and contribute to its ongoing revitalization.
