The Greenwood Beat – WFPG Teams Up with 1921 Music for New “Youth Zone” Experience
New Platform Aims to Empower Tulsa’s Youth Through Music, Media, and Mentorship
Tulsa, OK, June 27, 2025 — In a dynamic new collaboration, The Greenwood Beat – WFPG, Oklahoma’s first and only Black woman-owned radio station on historic Greenwood Avenue, is teaming up with 1921 Music and its visionary founder Dom Williams to launch an empowering initiative for Tulsa’s youth: The Youth Zone.
Set to debut this summer, The Youth Zone will be a bold and interactive space—both on-air and in the community—created to uplift young voices, provide creative outlets, and foster leadership through music, media, and mentorship.
“This partnership is personal,” said Dr. Angela K. Chambers, Founder and CEO of The Greenwood Beat. “We’re building something our youth can see themselves in—something that pours into them with truth, love, and opportunity.”
Dom Williams: Championing Tulsa’s Talent
Dom Williams, a well-respected force in the music industry and community development, brings powerful experience to this effort. He played a pivotal role in the success of Tulsa-based rapper June, who was signed by a major record label, showing that local talent can break through and go national with the right support and strategy.
Williams’ track record for mentoring artists and guiding youth toward purpose-driven paths makes him a perfect partner for The Greenwood Beat’s mission to “Rebuild Black Wall Street—One Beat at a Time.”
“With June, we saw how far belief and opportunity can go,” said Williams. “Now we’re taking that energy and giving it to the next generation—right here in Tulsa.”
What to Expect from The Youth Zone
The Youth Zone will provide an authentic and engaging outlet for Tulsa youth ages 13–19, featuring:
-
Teen-Led Talk Segments broadcast on The Greenwood Beat – WFPG
-
Real Conversations on issues impacting youth today
-
Music & Media Workshops led by industry professionals
-
Dance Battles, Artist Showcases, and Safe Space Pop-Ups

Mentorship Connections to local creatives and entrepreneurs
The platform will also spotlight emerging talent and equip youth with tools to tell their stories, own their voices, and lead with confidence.
A Response to the Times
The initiative is launching in response to recent violence affecting the Tulsa community, especially among youth. The Youth Zone will offer a healing alternative—a place to be heard, seen, and celebrated, while building positive pathways for growth and creative expression.
“We’re not just reacting—we’re planting seeds,” added Dr. Chambers. “Together, we’re changing the narrative for our young people, and it starts now.”
