One of the recent announcements from Dr. Mays is a collaboration with the American Red Cross Tulsa Chapter. This partnership aims to educate the community about Sickle Cell Disease, a condition that affects approximately 100,000 Americans. Dr. Mays hopes that by sharing information about SCD, they can raise awareness and support those affected by the disease. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, SCD occurs among about 1 out of every 365 Black or African-American births and about 1 out of every 16,300 Hispanic-American births. Additionally, about 1 in 13 Black or African-American babies is born with sickle cell trait (SCT).
As we are celebrating Black History Month, The Greenwood Beat – WFPG recognizes the importance of reflecting on and educating others about the impact and contributions African Americans have made and continue to make in the United States of America. The station will be making changes to the Refocused and Informed Radio Talk Show, among other exciting updates. Stay connected to The Greenwood Beat – WFPG to be the first to hear about these announcements.
