We Will Not Be Deterred: An Official Statement from The Greenwood Beat – WFPG

The Greenwood Beat – WFPG, the voice of Historic Greenwood Avenue, stands in unity and truth.

In light of recent backlash and unfortunate acts of violence, we must speak clearly: individual actions do not represent entire communities, movements, or the significance of events held on sacred ground.

It is unjust to project the choices of one or a few individuals onto the city of Tulsa, the Historic Greenwood District, or the collective legacy of Black Wall Street. These actions should not be allowed to diminish the work, intention, or success of organizers and businesses who have committed themselves to restoration and celebration.

We honor and thank the organizers of the June 10th festivities and all who pour into Greenwood with passion and purpose. Your work uplifts a history that cannot be erased and a future that must be protected.

We are resilient. We are building. And we will not stop.

As we move forward, we urge our community and supporters to:

Continue celebrating on Historic Greenwood Avenue.

Share and pass down the traditions, wisdom, and legacy of our ancestors.

Speak boldly in truth and unity.

Uplift one another and reject projections rooted in pain or misunderstanding.

📣 Please share this message. Let us not allow the voices of negativity to overpower the legacy of resilience, brilliance, and Black excellence.

With faith and determination,

Dr. Angela K. Chambers
