The Greenwood Beat -WFPG is thrilled to announce the launch of their new program, Let’s READ! This exciting initiative aims to provide parents with an opportunity to tune into The Greenwood Beat and engage their children in the joy of reading. Through Let’s READ, volunteers from the community will read aloud to children and encourage them to read along.

Dr. Angela K. Chambers, the driving force behind Let’s READ, expressed her enthusiasm for the program. “We have gathered a dedicated group of volunteers who are passionate about making a difference in children’s lives. We are ready to kick off Let’s READ on Saturday, January 6th,” she shared.

The program aims to address the root causes of academic struggles faced by many children. By instilling a love for reading at an early age, Let’s READ hopes to empower children and set them on a path to success. “We believe that by fostering a strong reading habit, we can make a positive impact on our children’s lives and help them overcome challenges,” Dr. Chambers explained.

As the program gears up for its launch, the Greenwood Beat is proud to acknowledge and celebrate the first to volunteer, Mrs. Katina Walker. Known for her influential role in the Tulsa community and her work with CEOs, Mrs. Walker has been trending lately. She is the founder and inspiration behind CEO’s Nights Out and CEO’s Nights Out Meets The Greenwood Beat.

Before the collaboration, Katina Walker successfully created and launched “CEO’s Night Out” to offer support to other CEOs, managers, and those in leadership roles looking for answers, just like she had. The support group she started has been growing steadily month by month.

Taking the group to a new level, Katina formed a collaboration with Dr. Angela K. Chambers and Dr. Francetta L. Mays, the first black woman-owned radio station owners: The Greenwood Beat – WFPG. Located in the historic Greenwood District in Tulsa, Oklahoma, also known as The Original Black Wall Street, WFPG has provided increased exposure for CEO’s Night Out and its members.

In December, we are celebrating the success of 2023 and the expansion of the team that consistently helps behind the scenes, volunteering their time, participating in team meetings, and completing assigned tasks. As CEOs, everyone understands the importance of the platform that has been created.

CEO’s Night Out Meets the Greenwood Beat has created a platform of opportunities for CEOs to speak, share information, and promote their brands, all while gaining resources and support from like-minded individuals. On Saturday, December 16, 2023, they will host the final CEO’s Night Out event of the year from 4 – 7pm at the Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Tulsa, located at 415 D Boston Ave., 2nd floor. 6 Week Cohort: Contracts is Making an Impact with Entrepreneurs and Business Owners

The 6-week cohort presented by the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce with Dr. Angela K. Chambers is off to a great start. Attendees were engaged as Dr. Chambers discussed the process of registering with the System Awards Management (SAM) on Monday night. They were able to glean from Dr. Chambers’ experienced knowledge as she shared her insights about bidding on and working on various contracts.

Dr. Chambers shared and discussed different strategies, outlining processes from researching, data gathering, pricing,v management, reporting, and tracking the work for future endeavors. She also highlighted various entities with contract opportunities.  Dr. Chambers shared over 100 opportunities for contracting, and that was just a short list.

Attendees learned and even registered with SAM. Dr. Chambers also announced the upcoming week’s subjects and guest speakers. For Monday, December 18, 2023, Faith Matlock Johnson, the founder of Gabby Dade and Co., a tax and accounting boutique, will be speaking. Faith has received many accolades and has Level 3 Government Accounting Certifications from The Catalyst Entrepreneur Group in Huntsville, Alabama.

Known for her ability to save clients thousands of tax dollars, create tax plans, and assist companies in scaling, Faith plays a pivotal role in supporting underserved communities and minority-owned businesses, promoting financial literacy and sustainable growth.
