Justice Should Look the Same for Everyone – Tulsa Branch NAACP

The Tulsa Branch of the NAACP firmly believes that justice should be blind and equal for all individuals, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or social status. In a society that prides itself on fairness and equality, it is crucial that our justice system upholds these principles.

Unfortunately, there have been numerous instances where justice has not been served equally. Racial disparities in the criminal justice system have been well-documented, with people of color often facing harsher punishments and longer sentences compared to their white counterparts for similar offenses. Additionally, there is an increase of cases mishandled for people regarding their mental competence.

Justice Should Look the Same for Everyone

Tulsa Branch NAACP #6143 President, Dr. Francetta L. Mays recently attended a Press Conference in Mayes County to speak out and up for justice. The NAACP is civil rights organization focused on advocating for justice and equality.

Kali Penn was arrested and charged with First-Degree Murder of the death of his aunt. However, according to the family and information shared Kali has mental challenges that have not been properly considered.

Dr. Mays, referenced a similar situation of the daughter of Tulsa County’s District Attorney Steve Kunswelier.

In fairness, the same rules should apply for everyone even if your parents are not a District Attorney or any other perceived public figure who receives preferential treatment.

The Tulsa Branch of the NAACP advocates for the elimination of racial bias in the criminal justice system. We believe that every individual should be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their background. This includes fair treatment during arrest, trial, and sentencing.

It is essential for law enforcement agencies to undergo bias training to address any implicit biases that may influence their decision-making. This can help ensure that individuals are not unfairly targeted or discriminated against based on their race, ethnicity or mental state.

Furthermore, the Tulsa Branch of the NAACP supports the implementation of policies that promote transparency and accountability within the justice system. This includes thorough investigations into allegations of police misconduct and the establishment of independent oversight committees to monitor law enforcement practices.

By advocating for equal justice, the Tulsa Branch of the NAACP aims to create a society where everyone is treated fairly and impartially. We believe that by addressing systemic issues and promoting equality, we can work towards a more just and inclusive community for all.
