Black Wall Street Brunch Club Kicks Off with Powerful Conversation and Community Connection

By The Greenwood Beat – WFPG

The historic Greenwood Avenue was buzzing once again as the highly anticipated Black Wall Street Brunch Club (BWSBC) made its bold return—this time with a fresh twist, strong voices, and meaningful conversation. Hosted by the dynamic Starr Fisher, Co-Owner and Chief Operations Executive of The Greenwood Beat – WFPG, the BWSBC brunch is far more than just a meal—it’s a movement.

Starr, also affectionately known as Honour’s mom, brings a legacy of excellence, leadership, and creativity to the table. Known for her talents as a singer and respected for her business acumen, Starr originally launched the Black Wall Street Brunch Club years ago at her restaurant, Manhattan on Brookside, where guests were treated to soulful dishes and a soul-stirring atmosphere. Now, she’s bringing that same magic back to Greenwood—served with purpose.

The kickoff brunch was nothing short of powerful. Gathering changemakers, thought leaders, and advocates, the event brought together:

Dr. Angela K Chambers, Founder & CEO of The Greenwood Beat – WFPG

Raittia Rogers, author and public speaker

Elnora Brown, counselor, coach, and voice of healing

Business owners and community advocates Corey and Kim Street, Carmen Pettie

Pastor Sheree Whitside, spiritual leader and community builder

And as a special highlight, Steven Williams, President of the National Juneteenth Observance Foundation and Board Member of Project 1619, joined the table. A proud descendant of Tulsa’s historic Greenwood community—famously known as the original Black Wall StreetWilliams offered historical context, heartfelt wisdom, and a reminder of why these conversations matter.

Set to be a monthly event, the BWSBC will air on The Greenwood Beat – WFPG and Facebook, broadcasting the brilliance and real talk happening at the brunch table straight to the community.

This isn’t just a brunch—it’s a platform, Starr shared. “We’re combining food, culture, conversation, and action. It’s about remembering our legacy while moving forward with strength and unity.”

The People Are Talking: Let’s Run That Back — Ask Angela with Dr. Jennettie Marshall and Charity Marcus Calls for Part 2

The People Are Talking: Let’s Run That Back — Ask Angela with Dr. Jennettie Marshall and Charity Marcus Calls for Part 2.

When two powerful voices like Dr. Jennettie Marshall and Charity Marcus sit down at the mic, you know it’s going to be good—but the recent Ask Angela interview exceeded expectations and struck a major chord in the community.

Listeners tuned in to a bold, necessary, and refreshingly honest conversation about the current state of Tulsa Public Schools (TPS). From boardroom decisions to grassroots advocacy, Dr. Marshall and Marcus brought the facts, the fire, and the focus we need right now.

The show was so impactful, the phones rang, the inbox filled, and the people made it clear: WE NEED A PART 2.

Why? Because the conversation isn’t over.

Dr. Jennettie Marshall, a TPS Board Member and community pillar, broke down truths with clarity and conviction. Charity Marcus, known for her fearless advocacy and policy insight, dropped gems that had listeners nodding in agreement and demanding more. Their perspectives weren’t just educational—they were transformational.

Accountability. Transparency. Community. Solutions. All of that and more was served in Part 1. But with so many more layers to the challenges (and opportunities) within TPS, one show simply isn’t enough.

So what’s next?

Part 2 is coming. And trust—it will go even deeper.

Expect more discussion on:

  • The state audit and what it means for the future

  • How parents and students can get involved right now

  • What real accountability looks like

  • Creating a culture of excellence in education

Let’s keep the momentum going.

Stay locked in with Ask Angela on The Greenwood Beat – WFPG, Oklahoma’s first Black woman-owned radio station, broadcasting from historic Greenwood Avenue.
