The Greenwood Beat – WFPG Announces Powerful New Partnership with Attorney Khadijat A. Oluwatoyin
Rebuilding Black Wall Street One Beat at a Time—With Justice, Healing, and Community at the Core

The Greenwood Beat – WFPG, Oklahoma’s first Black woman-owned radio station and a growing national platform for Black voices, is proud to announce its newest partnership with Attorney Khadijat A. Oluwatoyin, founder of Community Act.

As The Voice of Greenwood, WFPG is committed to rebuilding Black Wall Street—one beat at a time. This partnership reflects a powerful alignment of values: truth, restoration, education, and community healing.

Khadijat A. Oluwatoyin is not only a seasoned attorney but also a community mediator and a compassionate voice for conflict resolution. Her practice, Community Act, was born out of both personal experience and professional dedication. Navigating tough relationship dynamics in her adolescence, she later developed a conflict resolution style rooted in intentionality, transparency, and emotional intelligence.

Khadijat brings a rare and vital perspective to legal and community-based conversations:

“We can resolve conflict without abandoning ourselves. Integrity and grace are not mutually exclusive.”

With this partnership, Attorney Oluwatoyin and The Greenwood Beat will collaborate on media programming, legal insight segments, conflict resolution resources, and community events aimed at strengthening families, organizations, and neighborhoods.

Together, the vision is clear: To foster restoration across generations—the last, the current, the next, and the ones to come.

Dr. Angela K. Chambers, Founder and CEO of WFPG, shared:

“This partnership is part of our larger mission. It’s not just about rebuilding what was destroyed in 1921; it’s about reimagining our power, our peace, and our prosperity. Khadijat’s voice and purpose are a perfect fit.”

Stay tuned to The Greenwood Beat – WFPG as we continue building platforms for healing, justice, and unity—airing powerful truths from Greenwood to the world.

Standing Room Only: Greenwood Community Unites for Solutions and Safety

Historic Greenwood Avenue was alive with purpose and power as the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce and the Deep Greenwood Foundation hosted a community gathering that brought together leaders, law enforcement, and citizens to address pressing issues and chart a path forward.

Held in the historic heart of Tulsa’s Black Wall Street, the event drew a full house—so full, in fact, it was standing room only. The gathering reflected the spirit of unity, urgency, and determination that continues to define Greenwood’s legacy.

Security was tight and respectful, with Officer Mark Jeans, security for the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, ensuring a safe and orderly space. Among those in attendance were Tulsa County Sheriff Rick Regalado, a member of the Tulsa Police Department, and representatives from Betty Jackson Counseling Services. Parents, grandparents, business owners, and organizational leaders filled the room, each ready to engage in meaningful dialogue and planning.

Throughout the meeting, the crowd engaged in thoughtful discussions that touched on key issues—most notably, safety and security within the Greenwood District. Concerns were raised, ideas were exchanged, and solutions were proposed. From improving community-police relations to enhancing neighborhood watch initiatives, security was not just addressed—it was prioritized.

Another important area of focus was the event and vendor permit process. Attendees received crucial information about how to navigate the city’s requirements, what to expect when hosting public events on Greenwood, and how to effectively advocate for necessary changes to outdated or burdensome procedures.

Dr. Angela K. Chambers, Founder and CEO of The Greenwood Beat – WFPG, took the floor to share impactful updates with the crowd. She highlighted the ongoing Open Mic Nights, held every Thursday at 6 PM at 104 N. Greenwood Ave, as a vital platform for community voice and dialogue. Dr. Chambers also announced the addition of GRAND Mental Health and Family and Children Services as new partners offering free counseling services.

“We as the community must talk about our issues,” Dr. Chambers said. “We can only go to so many meetings to hear people talk at us. We know what’s going on—and we need to fix it.”

Her message resonated deeply with attendees and emphasized the importance of not only having a seat at the table, but also using your voice once you’re there.

The event also sparked new collaborations and inspired action plans. Ideas were hatched for new initiatives focused on youth development, economic opportunity, and mental health access, signaling the community’s commitment to holistic growth.

The Greenwood Chamber of Commerce and the Deep Greenwood Foundation’s joint effort was a reminder that when community stakeholders gather, real progress can happen. By creating a space for voices to be heard, questions to be answered, and partnerships to be formed, this standing-room-only event did more than fill a room—it fueled a movement.

Help the Children by Being a Resource

In today’s fast-paced world, it’s important to remember that our children are the future. They need our support and guidance to help them focus, perform, and learn. As a community, we have the power to make a difference in their lives. So, let’s come together and be a resource for our children.

One way you can help is by starting with your tribe. Are there parents in your community who are struggling to transport their children to and from school? Offering to help with transportation on some days can make a big difference in their lives. It may seem like a small gesture, but it can have a huge impact on a child’s ability to attend school regularly and be engaged in their education.

Another way to support our children is by creating a home learning environment. Young parents often face challenges in managing their homes while trying to provide a conducive learning environment for their children. If you have any tips or tools that can help them manage their homes more efficiently, share them. Sometimes, a simple suggestion can make a world of difference.

If you have some free time, consider volunteering to read books on air at The Greenwood BeatWFPG or in a local reading program. Reading is a fundamental skill that lays the foundation for a child’s education. By volunteering your time, you can help instill a love for reading and learning in young minds. It’s a rewarding experience that benefits both you and the children.

For those who have a passion for education, consider getting involved with the PTA or PTSA organizations in your local schools. These organizations play a vital role in supporting the needs of students and teachers. By joining them, you can contribute to the improvement of your community’s education system.

Let’s not forget about the importance of sharing information. Many parents may not be aware of the free or low-cost services available in the community that can benefit their children. By sharing this information, you can help parents access the resources they need to support their child’s education. Whether it’s tutoring programs, after-school activities, or mentoring opportunities, every little bit helps.

If you have school-aged children in your family, take a moment to assess if there are any needs that you can assist with. It could be as simple as helping with homework or providing a quiet space for studying. By offering your support, you can make a positive impact on their educational journey.

It’s clear that our school system in Tulsa has been failing for over 30 years. But together, we can start to turn things around. The Greenwood Beat – WFPG is calling on all leaders, college and high school students, church leaders, pastors, retired teachers, and other organizations to volunteer to read online. The reading program is aimed at children aged 0 to 8 years old, and it broadcasts every Saturday from noon Central Standard Time.

The Let’s READ initiative kicked off on January 6th with author and educator Mr. Troy J. Petit Sr. He interviewed with Dr. Angela K. Chambers, CEO of The Greenwood Beat – WFPG, and read from his book, “Hugs of Love, on air. Mr. Pettit shared his passion for writing the book and why it’s important to instill a sense of love and compassion in children. Author Esther Jones has also joined the cause and is working tirelessly to spread the word.

If you’re interested in volunteering for the Let’s READ program, simply email us at read@thegreenwoodbeat.com. Your contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant impact on a child’s life. Together, let’s be a resource for our children and help them thrive in their education.
