Tulsa’s CEO’s Night Out is Catching on and Growing

The CEO’s Night Out, which Katina Walker started in her beauty supply location, Roots Barber & Beauty Supply (Roots), has grown and has been a big hit for business owners in Tulsa. CEO’s Night Out was created to help promote Tulsa’s founders, entrepreneurs, CEO’s and visionaries. She worked to form a solid community of entrepreneurs who were passionate about helping others and diversity and inclusion. A primary goal of CEO’s Night Out is to create networking opportunities, which include education, information, and testimonial business journeys. The space also allows the attendees to share and discuss challenges and solutions.

Attendees’ demographics comprise different cultural, economic and social backgrounds, which provides a broad scope of information. Katina met several of the entrepreneurs as she created opportunities for local entrepreneurs to showcase their products in Roots. She also became known as “Tulsa Entrepreneur HUB.”

Katina and her husband opened their first storefront in 2019, “Preme Cannabis Company LLC.” Her second business name was given to her in a dream, “Roots Barber & Beauty Supply.” So in 2020, she opened the second storefront and began making her products of sugar scrubs and body butters as therapeutic supplements. She creates products for men, women, and children.

CEO’s Night Out has collaborated with The Greenwood Beat – WFPG to create “CEO’s Night Out Meets The Greenwood Beat” and will host events every second Saturday of the month from 4-7pm at the Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Tulsa, 415 S. Boston Ave, Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Why did the System Fail Knia Walton?

Why did the System Fail Knia Walton?

Tiffany Walton, the mother of Knia Walton appeared on Flippin’ the Script radio talk show with host Francetta L. Mays on The Greenwood Beat – WFPG to discuss the investigation and bring awareness surrounding her daughter’s case. Walton to Francetta, “I am aware that my daughter used drugs but she was still a person. She still deserves justice.” She went on to give details of her daughter’s “murder” that took place July 4, 2023 at Pioneer Plaza, 901 N Elgin Ave., Apt. 214 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

As of now, the system has failed Knia. Tiffany talks with Francetta about the circumstances surrounding her daughter’s murder. She describe her interaction with the person(s) she believes is “allegedly” responsible for Knia’s death. The crime scene was not processed properly, very little questioning took place and the bloody shirt that was taken off of her daughter before medics responded was NOT taken with authorities.

What are we doing? How has this happened? Watch the interview below.

The Greenwood Beat – WFPG Crowdfunding Equipment Fundraiser

The Greenwood Beat – WFPG Crowdfunding Equipment Fundraiser

The crowdfunding Equipment Fundraiser is off to a slow start but Angela K. Chambers and Francetta L. Mays are hopeful to meet their goal. Angela says, “I believe that as people hear of our story and When they realize that in 2023 we made history by creating the first black, female-owned radio station they will support us. In general, women have a more challenging fete to obtain and even having access to capital. But also when we are in 2023 and ‘blacks’ are still making history by being the first of anything tells me to remain hopefully.”

Echoing and adding to Angela’s sentiment, Francetta says, “As people hear our passion and understand what we are striving for I believe the support will come. The more people even just sharing the story helps to reach the people who are passionate about changing the world we live in today for the better.”

The Greenwood Beat – WFPG is “A Voice for Greenwood.”  Angela says, “And WFPG gives all of us the opportunity to discover the story and build on the resilience of Greenwood while recreating Black Wall Street and a better mankind. It’s not necessary to continue to pour gasoline on the fire of 1921 as Francetta always says.”

Consider making a donation to The Greenwood Beat – WFPG GoFundMe crowdfunding Equipment Fundraiser.  Any size donation is welcome. According to Franetta L. Mays, also an Associate Pastor at the Historic Vernon AME Church (Vernon), “In the Book of Redemption located in Vernon, the people were able to rebuild in one year’s time with donations as small as $0.10.” Share the link with your family, friends and networks.

Every Friday, WFPG promotes its $5 CashApp SHOUT OUTS! Listeners CashApp $5 to $TheGreenwoodBeat and on Fridays,  they are given a SHOUT OUT on Facebook. Beginning Friday, July 14, 2023, the SHOUT OUTS will also be listed on the website.
